How coins work

Cash coins are bought with money at the prices shown at checkout, and are used to enter paid contests, where the prizes are paid out separately by the FLIP team.

Coins are not cashed out. There is no way to convert a balance back into money inside the app, and cash coins carry no withdrawable value; what a paid contest pays is a prize, awarded on how you place, not the return of a balance.

Play coins are free and worth nothing. You receive them as a weekly allowance and in free contests, and they are never sold. They enter free contests only, they cannot be turned into money, and they cannot be converted into cash coins. The two are separate currencies and our ledger refuses any transaction that spans them.

Buying coins

Cash coins are bought through our payment processor, and only where paid contests are available (see the Terms of Use), because they can only be used to enter paid contests. They are never bought through app-store billing.

Play coins cannot be bought. They are given free.

Every account has a cap of USD 200 on cash coin purchases in any rolling 30 days, so no single purchase can be more than that. You can set lower limits of your own. The Terms of Use set out the caps in full.

Refunds on a purchase

Coins are digital content supplied immediately, so the usual fourteen-day cancellation right ends once the purchase completes and the coins land in your wallet. You are told this at checkout before you pay.

If a purchase was charged twice, charged and not delivered, or made without your authority, tell us and we will put it right.

Beyond those cases, coin purchases are non-refundable once the coins are delivered to your wallet, except where the law gives you a right that cannot be excluded.

Refunds on a contest

Entry to an event is non-refundable, with a single exception: a contest that cannot be run at all.

A contest that cannot be completed is voided. Every entry fee is returned in full, and no fee is retained. A voided contest earns FLIP nothing.

If FLIP cancels an event before it starts, every entry fee is returned in full to the wallet it was paid from: cash coins to your cash coin balance, and play coins to your play coin balance or weekly allowance. You are notified when this happens.

A live tournament runs to a schedule. If you enter one but do not take part, or you drop out on your own connection while it runs for everyone else, your entry is not refunded. A refund arises only where the contest itself could not be run at all.

A contest that finished is not refundable on the basis of the result. Losing, or placing outside the prizes, is not a fault.

If you believe a contest was decided wrongly, or your placing in a ranked event was recorded wrongly, ask us to review it. We keep a full record of every contest, so the review is based on what actually happened rather than two accounts of it.

How prizes are paid

Prizes are provided by FLIP from its own funds, never from entry fees. A cash prize, from a paid contest or a free one, is paid to you in money by bank transfer, directly by the FLIP team, outside the app. It is never added to a coin balance, so winnings cannot be used to enter a contest. They are awarded on final placing and settled once the result is confirmed. If you win, we contact you to arrange payment once verification and anti-cheat checks are complete, so keep the email address and phone number on your account current and check them after an event. If we cannot reach you within a reasonable time, we may be unable to pay the prize.

Before we pay a cash prize we check your identity: we email you a secure link to Didit (didit.me), our identity verification provider, where you photograph a government-issued photo ID and take a short selfie, to confirm your name, date of birth and age. A prize under review for suspected cheating is held until the review is done, and a prize forfeited for cheating passes to the next eligible player by placing.

We aim to pay prizes within 30 days after winner verification and any anti-cheat checks are complete, and we will tell you if we need more time. It is your responsibility to keep the contact details on your account correct and current so that we can reach you.
